PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Product:

The Sweet Tooth Co aims to make the cake ordering process for all customers a piece of cake! From choosing the flavor, frosting, and filling to adding special messages or selecting intricate designs, The Sweet Tooth Co lets the customer a cake that reflects your unique taste and style.

The Problem:

The process of ordering cakes can often be time-consuming and confusing for customers, leading to frustration and potential errors. Traditional methods of ordering cakes, such as phone calls or in-person visits lack convenience and personalization. There is a need for a user-friendly cake ordering app that simplifies the process, provides customization options, and ensures a delightful customer experience.

The Goal:

The goal of this project is to design and develop a cake ordering app that streamlines the cake ordering process, offers a wide range of customization options, and delivers a seamless and delightful user experience. By addressing the pain points associated with traditional cake ordering methods, the app aims to provide customers with a convenient, personalized, and hassle-free way to order cakes for various occasions.

My Role In This Project:

As this was a course project, I was responsible for doing everything in making The Sweet Tooth Co. I was responsible for the Design, Research, Prototyping, Wireframing and finally making the final High Fidelity Prototype and getting it ready for the developers.

UNDERSTANDING THE USER

The objective of the user research conducted for The Sweet Tooth Co was to gain insights into users preferences, behaviours, and pain points related to cake ordering. The research aimed to inform the design and development of an intuitive and user-friendly website that delivers a delightful cake ordering experience.

USER PAIN POINTS

The survey results indicated that the majority of respondents preferred online cake ordering due to the convenience and time-saving benefits it offers compared to traditional methods

Users expressed a strong desire for customization options when ordering cakes. They appreciated the ability to choose cake size, shape, icing, decorations, and personalization features like messages and photos. Customization was seen as a way to make the cake truly special for their occasions.

USER PERSONAS

Participants showed strong desire to be able to order cakes for others in the most seamless way possible. They mentioned that they really want to be able to send / deliver cakes to their loved ones , in their preferred time and also should be able to customize the cake as much as possible.

Paper Wireframes

This is a sample of how I did my paper wireframes for the Sweet Tooth Co. It is always rough and just good enough to brainstorm my ideas before I go for the digital wireframes.

Digital Wire framing

While designing the low fidelity wireframes, the primary thing on my mind was to focus on the pain points reported by the users during the interviews and make something that is cohesive with their requirements to make the website more user friendly. For example, as most users , indicated that they really like it when they have the freedom to customize their orders as much as possible. Therefore I tried to keep customization options wherever I could, for example the pages shown on the right and below.

Many participants mentioned that they often like to order cakes for their loved ones on their special occasions, in fact many participants mentioned that they order mostly for others more than they order for themselves. therefore I decided to focus on the details filling up page where I made sure that there were clear instructions for the user where they could provide their as well as their receivers details without much hassle.

Mock Ups

During the usability study, a lot of participants were looking for an option where they could choose to pick up their order rather than getting it delivered. therefore keeping that in mind I corrected the mock up and placed a “I’d like to pick up my order” option to the page. The images in the right depicts what changes were made.

Mock Ups

During the usability study, a lot of participants were looking for an option where they could send a greeting card along with the cake . Therefore we added an option in the revised mock up where a field was added through which they can select the option of sending a greeting card and also the occasion.

ICONS

Accessibility Considerations

I have used a wide range of icons to represent various aspects of actions throughout the app in order to assist users with some reading and visual disabilities. These icons will also help people who are less familiar with the English language.

COLOR CONTRAST

I have tried to use black over white combinations throughout the app to create the best contrast of colors for making it easy for visually impaired individuals. We have also used a hint of the color pink and big pictures to create further contrast.

RESIZABLE TEXT

In order to assist people who have vision problems and have trouble reading standard sized texts, we added a feature on the sign up page through which user can adjust font size according to their convenience throughout the app.
